The City of Monticello, Iowa
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA
RESOLUTION #19-76
Resolution to approve wage increase for Jim Tjaden, Superintendent of Sewer and Water Departments
Whereas, Jim Tjaden is a Grade 3 Certified Wastewater operator and Grade 2 Water Operator, both certifications being a requirement of his position, and
Whereas, the City’s wastewater and water permits with the State require the City to have someone on staff with the aforementioned certifications, and
Whereas, the labor market for Grade 3 Wastewater Operators is tight and salaries for Grade 3 Certified operators have been on the rise, and
Whereas, the Council was provided with wage data and information to support an increase in Tjaden’s wages, and
Whereas, the Council has been informed that Tjaden has agreed to a scheduled wage increase over the next three years with Tjaden to become a salaried exempt position and paid $58,000 with the first payroll during which July 1, 2019 falls, with his salary to increase to $60,000 with the payroll during which July 1, 2020 falls and to $62,000 with the payroll during which July 1, 2021 falls, and
Whereas, the Council finds the salary increases to be appropriate and justified in light of market data and in light of the fact that Tjaden’s position is now, with this increase, a supervisory position, exempt from overtime.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Monticello does hereby approve of the wage increases noted above for Jim Tjaden with Tjaden becoming a salaried exempt position to be paid $58,000 with the first payroll during which July 1, 2019 falls, with his salary to increase to $60,000 with the payroll during which July 1, 2020 falls and to $62,000 with the payroll during which July 1, 2021 falls, and
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto subscribed my name and caused the Great Seal of the City of Monticello, Iowa to be affixed hereto. Done this 20th Day of May, 2019.
