The City of Monticello, Iowa

IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA

RESOLUTION #19-52

Approving installation of Period Fixtures on a portion of the 2019 North Sycamore Street Reconstruction Project, entering into an agreement with Alliant Energy to underground wiring along a portion of the 2019 North Sycamore Street Reconstruction Project, and directing Alliant Energy to remove lighting throughout the scope of the North Sycamore Street Reconstruction project.

WHEREAS, the Council has considered multiple options related to street lighting along N. Sycamore Street from 1^st Street to 7^th Street, and

WHEREAS, the Council has determined it appropriate to install period fixtures, substantially similar to those already installed in downtown and other Monticello areas, from N. Sycamore’s intersection with E. 1^st Street to its’ intersection with 4^th Street, a total of six (6) period fixtures, with Alliant fixtures including the fixture on the SW corner of N. Sycamore and 4^th Street, remaining Alliant fixtures at the completion of the project, and

WHEREAS, the Council has also determined it appropriate to direct and compensate Alliant Energy to underground overhead lines from the SE corner of the intersection of N. Sycamore and 4^th Street to the north, the lines currently providing power to three (3) light poles, the light poles to be reinstalled as wood poles with Alliant fixtures at the appropriate time during or at the end of this project, at the approximate cost of $16,000, and

WHEREAS, the Council finds that Alliant Energy should be directed to remove all street lights during the course of this project at such time as they are requested to do so by the Monticello City Administrator so as to facilitate the reconstruction of the street and all related infrastructure.

NOW, THEREFORE, It Is Resolved by the City Council of the City of Monticello, Iowa, as follows:

That the City shall contract with Horsfield Construction to install period fixtures, substantially similar to those already installed in downtown and other Monticello areas, from N. Sycamore’s intersection with E. 1^st Street to its’ intersection with 4^th Street, a total of six (6) period fixtures. (Alliant fixtures including the fixture on the SW corner of N. Sycamore and 4^th Street, from 4^th through 7^th will not be replaced with period fixtures.), and

That Alliant Energy will be directed to underground the overhead lines from the SE corner of the intersection of N. Sycamore and 4^th Street to the north, the lines currently providing power to three (3) light poles, the light poles to be reinstalled as wood poles with Alliant fixtures at the appropriate time during or at the end of this project, at the approximate cost of $16,000, and

That Alliant Energy is hereby directed to remove all street lights during the course of this project between E. 1^st Street on the south and E. 7^th Street on the north at such time as they are requested to do so by the Monticello City Administrator, who is by this resolution authorized to direct said action on behalf of the Council, so as to facilitate the reconstruction of the street and all related infrastructure.
