The City of Monticello, Iowa
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA
RESOLUTION #17-80
Finding the property at 224 N. Chestnut Street, Monticello, Iowa to have been in violation of the City Nuisance, Property Maintenance, and Dangerous Building Codes prior to the City purchase of same.
WHEREAS, the property located at 224 N. Chestnut Street, Monticello, Iowa suffered significant damages as a result of a fire on March 18, 2017, and
WHEREAS, the property owner did not have insurance and had no means of clearing or cleaning the property, resulting in the home and property being in violation of many provisions of the City Code pertaining to Nuisance, Property Maintenance, and Dangerous Buildings, and
WHEREAS, the City Council determined it appropriate to negotiate the purchase of said property, finding that to be the best and quickest means of clearing the property, ridding the property of the burned up structure, and avoiding protracted legal action and expense associated therewith, and
WHEREAS, the City Council subsequently approved the purchase of the property and has taken steps to arrange for the demolition of same.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Monticello, Iowa hereby declares the property at 224 N. Chestnut Street, Monticello, IA to have been in violation of the City Nuisance, Property Maintenance, and Dangerous Building Codes prior to the City purchase of same, as a result of the significant fire damage that occurred on March 18, 2017.
