THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA
RESOLUTION #16-22
Resolution to approve Cost Share on “CSB Youth Development Center” and “Berndes Center/City Park” Parking Lot project with the Great Jones County Fair.
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA
WHEREAS, The City Council has considered a request by the Great Jones County Fair to pave a portion of the City Park regularly used for parking between the N. end of the Berndes Center and the S. side of the Citizens State Bank Youth Development Center, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds that the paving project would be mutually beneficial to the Fair and the City, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds that the City previously hired the City Engineer to design parking lot improvements in this area and that those efforts were utilized in the preparation of a set of final plans by the Fair, in concert with local contractors, that modified and reduced the overall scope of the project as designed by the City Engineer, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds that the area proposed for parking is an area that catches significant water from the two adjacent buildings and that during wet times becomes a wet and muddy area not suitable for parking, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds that the Fair has agreed to oversee this project, to line up contractors, to accept responsibility for all electrical portions of this project, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds that the Fair intends to utilize local contractors and suppliers in the completion of this project and that the total project cost, including two period light fixtures to match those at the Berndes Center gates that would be wired to the CSB Youth Development Center panel, would come in at approximately $110,000, with the Fair requesting that the City contribute 50% of the project costs, and
WHEREAS, The City would remove and haul trees and associated waste from the area if possible, and if not, the Fair and the City would share costs related thereto on a 50/50 basis, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds that this project would result in a beneficial improvement for all involved, would take advantage of and utilize local contractors and suppliers, and would involve a significant cost share from the Fair, and that the City should support this project, utilizing Storm Water funds to cover a portion of the costs, at the rate of 50% of the approved project costs, estimated to be in the approximate amount of $55,000.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Monticello, through its’ City Council, in session this 15th day of February, 2016, that the requested cost share between the City of Monticello and the Great Jones County Fair to see to the installation of a parking lot as proposed by the Fair between the Berndes Center and the CSB Youth Development Center is hereby approved with the understanding that the City will pay 50% of the approved project costs, currently estimated to be in the approximate amount of $55,000.
