The City of Monticello, Iowa
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA
RESOLUTION #14-26
Resolution to approve moving forward with IDOT federal bridge funding for purposes of E. 1st Street Bridge reconstruction project.
WHEREAS, the City of Monticello has been offered federal bridge funding in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000 to replace the E. 1st Street Bridge with a City cost share of 20%, and
WHEREAS, Federal design standards will result in a bigger bridge with a walkway/sidewalk, while the bridge contemplated by the City prior to federal funding eligibility notification was narrower and did not provide a walkway / sidewalk, and
WHEREAS, it is estimated that the federally designed and funded bridge would be completed at a much higher total cost than the non-federally designed and funded bridge, but that the City share of the total project costs would likely be in excess of $200,000 less if the bridge proceeds with federal funding, and
WHEREAS, the Council finds that it is in the best interest of the City of Monticello, and its’ taxpayers, to accept federal bridge funding and to move forward with the project consistent with applicable federal bridge design standards, specifications, and planning.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Monticello, Iowa does hereby direct the City Administrator to work with the IDOT to move forward with this project as a federally funded project, to be designed consistent with federal and / or state rules, regulations, and specifications as appropriate.
