The City of Monticello, Iowa
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA
RESOLUTION #12-113
Resolution to approve tree planting plan, as prepared by Richard Schneiter using volunteers to do the planting
WHEREAS, Richard Schneiter approached the City Council with a plan to plant trees in and around the aquatic center, football field, ball diamond, bus barns, school superintendent’s office, and areas around the NCI property, and
WHEREAS, Schneiter proposes the planting of swamp white oaks, red oaks, shamrock lindens, heritage oaks, regal prince oaks, some flowering crabs, and potentially others, with a total estimated cost of $11,009.47, and
WHEREAS, Schneiter agreed to water the trees with his trucks so long as the City agreed to provide the water, and
WHEREAS, The Council also discussed the planting of trees along 2nd Street, where the street reconstruction project resulted in the removal of many trees and determined it appropriate to offer each property owner two trees per lot, with two varieties to be offered, with property owners being obligated to plant and water the trees, and
WHEREAS, Schnieter also indicated that he was working with Audrey Savage to get private funding for trees to be planted from the aquatic center to the E16 area, and was working with Jo Amsler on a Hwy. 151 planting plan, and
WHEREAS, the Council finds that planting trees in and around the community is good for the community and that the volunteer service offered by Schneiter makes the planting plan more feasible from a budget standpoint, and from the standpoint that City staff will not be designated or assigned to perform planting or watering tasks.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Monticello, Iowa does hereby approve tree planting plan and project as proposed by Richard Schneiter, more fully laid out above.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto subscribed my name and caused the Great Seal of the City of Monticello, Iowa to be affixed hereto. Done this 20th day of August, 2012.
