The City of Monticello, Iowa
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO, IOWA
RESOLUTION # 11-170
Resolution to accept bids related to Senior Dining Center improvements and authorizing expenditure of City Funds to satisfy expense of improvements.
WHEREAS, The City Council previously authorized the advertisement for bids related to Senior Dining Center improvements, and two bids were received and opened, and
WHEREAS, The two bids were received from Advance Construction, in the amount of $7,949, and Precision Frame and Finish, in the amount of $11,674.44, both businesses being based in Monticello, and
WHEREAS, It appears that the bids deal differently with the drop ceiling portion of the project, with Advance reusing some of the drop ceiling grid while Precision’s’ bid proposed to replace all of the grid, and
WHEREAS, Randy Steiner, owner of Precision, discussed this issue with City Administrator Herman shortly after the bid opening and indicated to Administrator Herman that the Precision bid would have been approximately $2,000 less if it would have provided for the partial reuse of the ceiling grid as proposed by the Advance bid, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds that the bids are otherwise substantially similar, and further finds that even if the Precision bid were lowered by $2,000 the Advance bid would continue to be the low bid, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds that either contractor would be qualified to perform the work, and with that in mind, finds that the bid should be awarded to the low bidder, Advance Construction, Inc., in the amount of $7,949.00, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds that this work is necessary and appropriate to remodel the area so that it will best serve the senior citizens that will take advantage of the Monticello Senior Center, and
WHEREAS, The Council finds, and wants to make note of herein, that the City received $50,000 at the time this building was transferred through the City to the current owner, Althoff, and that the use of city funds for these renovations and other identified renovations such as painting, flooring, and potential concrete improvements, to be appropriate and in the best interests of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Monticello, Iowa does hereby accept the bids received from Precision Frame and Finish and Advance Construction and awards the Senior Dining Center project to Advance Construction, Inc. in the amount of $7,949.00, and further resolves that said expense shall be paid by the City of Monticello from available City funds upon project completion, and directs the City Administrator to work with the contractor and oversee the completion of the renovations as bid.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto subscribed my name and caused the Great Seal of the City of Monticello, Iowa to be affixed hereto. Done this 5th day of December, 2011.
